Kari Wuhrer Online Real Video Help Section

  • Introduction

  • There are many different formats available for offering videoclips on the internet. The most popular are windows media, avi, mpeg, quicktime and real video. I have chosen to make all the clips I offer Real Video Clips as I feel it offers a better balance of image quality for the file size it creates. That's important when you want people on dialup modems to be able to download them quickly. Also it costs your webmaster (me) money everytime a file is downloaded so the smaller the file size, the less money it costs me. This is a free site after all.

  • You Need A Real Video Player To View My Clips

  • Sorry but Real Video Files will not play if you try to view them using Windows Media Player or Quicktime Player. You need to download a Real Player. Don't worry you can get a free version for Windows or Macs here:

    http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html

The most current version of Real Player is "Real One". I actually prefer using the previous version called "Real Player 8" but either one will play my files.

  • Okay you've installed Real Player,  now what?

  • Time to watch some videoclips! However I highly suggest NOT just clicking on the movie file links like you do other links. If you simply click on the links, chances are the video will begin playing BUT it will end up pausing or stop playing prematurely before it is finished. So what is the solution?

  • Download & Save The Clip To Your Hard Drive First

  • In order to view my clips flawlessly without annoying pauses, you should save the clip to your PC before trying to watch them. You accomplish the task of saving this file just as you would save a picture.

All you need to do is point your mouse over the movie link images on my pages and right click on it. You should then be given the option to "Save Target As" or see the option "Save Link As". By choosing either of these options, my clips will then be downloaded and saved to your computer. You can then watch them even when you're no longer connected to the internet.

If you're using Internet Explorer, you should see the following options when you right click on this link: http://www.kariwuhrer.net/accesshollywood.ram

If you're using Netscape, you should see the following options when you right click on this link: http://www.kariwuhrer.net/accesshollywood.ram

Once you highlight and choose either Save Link As or Save Target As, you'll then be asked where on your PC you want to save this clip. For my example below, I am saving it to my Desktop.

Simply click the "Save" button and the clip will be downloaded and saved on your computer. Once this operation is finished, you would then go to your Desktop (or whatever folder you chose to save the clip) and then click on the file name (in the case accesshollywood) and it will begin playing. That's it. If you want to keep it for later viewing, it will be there for you; even when you are not connected to the internet. If you've watched the clip and don't want to keep it, just delete the file.

But I don't get a Save Link As/Save Target As Option When I Right Click On Your Links?

Not every internet browser offers this option but there is an alternative. Yoiu can download a Smart Downloader like Getright http://www.getright.com which will assist you with downloading my clips properly. See their help section for more information.

  • Why Must I Right Click Download/Save Your Clips Before Viewing Them?

  • Well there are a couple of reasons why so let me explain. The two main reasons why have already been mentioned. 1) The clips will play flawlessly without any pauses and you'll be sure to get the entire clip versus accidentally getting just a portion of it. 2) You now have a copy of my clips stored on your PC so you can view them again and again whenever you want.

I'm sure you've come across videoclips while surfing the net and when you clicked on the link, they started playing virtually right away. This is called "Streaming". Rather than wait for the entire clip to download, the clip begins playing while it is still downloading. Streaming is a nice feature but has its drawbacks. If you are using a dialup modem to connect to the internet, chances are the clip will start and stop playing a number of times and you'll get a message saying "Buffering" or "Reconnecting". Even if you have a fast cable modem/dsl connection to the internet, this can still happen if the server the clip is housed on gets busy. Another drawback is Streamed Clips can not be saved very easily. Woudln't you like to have copies of my Remote Control clip to watch whenever you want to?

The solution is I do NOT stream my clips AND you are able to save them and watch them again and again whenever you want.
